Last week Web Summit really succeed in his first year in Lisbon. Many speakers sharing their projects, opinions, predictions and advices mainly for entrepreneurs in tech startups. We would like to share some ideas that we consider relevant for this new era for entrepreneurs.

One big impact information is from Rowan Trollope, SVP & GM – Internet of Things (IoT) and Applications Division at Cisco Systems, explaining in one hand that 7 Million jobs will be destroyed, it is imperative to retrain people. In other hand 65% of children will have a job that doesn’t exist yet, so there is a big opportunity for entrepreneurs to find out what is needed. Also as Andrew Mcafee said “entrepreneur people are the ones who will create employs, despite the replacement of jobs due to the Artificial Intelligence.”

About Leadership there was a great speaker, George A. Papandreou, President of Socialist International – Former Prime Minister of Greece said “The next Leaders have to motivate and mobilise people as the society is part of the solutions that we need. They need to be inclusive, empathetic, and have common values.”

About the difference between Crowd and Community, Joseph Gordon Levitt, founder of HitRecord, shared his view about what is next in internet. He said we should pass from Crowd to Community, from Free Culture to Fair Compensation, and from Socialising to Collaborating.

From the investors side, Eileen Burbidge, partner at Passion Capital, said “We are not reaching enough people to make a difference”. She also thinks that one of the most important questions to entrepreneurs that is key for the decision of making an investment or not is “What’s drive a founder?”. Should be a reason that could make stable the projects, and it is not the revenues, it is the improvement of the business day by day. In our opinion, people need a meaning behind their work. Accelerators are key players and have a big responsibility to drive entrepreneurs in the right direction, and facilitate the process to achieve the success. And also it is important the investment in personal development of entrepreneurs, concretely in the soft skills development to assure they can deal with the daily challenges and this uncertain future.

And how entrepreneurs can manage the up and down of their daily life? In Dave McClure, founder of 500Startups, opinion is ” a good support network”. A good support network means a good team and to be in the right environment and ecosystem, that offer some stability.

And looking at the future Josh Giegle, co-founder of HyperloopOne, a new way to move people and things at airline speeds, energy efficient and safe. This amazing technology can change the way of living and work.

But the best message from this amazing event is a sentence from Mike Massimino, a NASA astronaut that believes “young entrepreneurs are the only who can change the world, the ones who can achieve big goals.”
